A media professor for 20 years, student media he led won over 60 awards, among them national and regional newswriting, feature, opinion, and social media recognition. His scholarly research, which includes studies of media bias, surveys, and content analysis, has gained three honors, one global.
Huckins served as a university professor/administrator for 20 years, leading student media to several dozen honors and increasing audiences by up to 1,500%. His graduates had an 86% placement rate in major/minor and 9% in graduate school for an overall rate of 95%, many times the national average.

His academic research has focused on factors influencing the portrayal of Christian groups in news media; his refereed journal articles have garnered hundreds of citations in PR, marketing & journalism scholarship. He's also won three honors for his studies, one global in scope. Additionally, he has authored several studies of Scripture as scholarly adviser and researcher for a Bible college & seminary in Australia.
A longtime leader in the world's largest group of media professors (Association for Education in Journalism & Mass Communication), he chaired its Commission on the Status of Minorities and brought it record attendance at events, a 49% membership increase, and the groundbreaking study completing the hiring picture for racial minorities in news as only half that of their share of the U.S. population.
Finally, Huckins has been in Christian ministry nearly a quarter-century and is in his 21st year of ordained work. He's been ordained three times, once by a Black denomination, and currently leads an interdenominational church & evangelism group, Eternity Now, which has reached over 18 million people worldwide for Christ - many of them thru social media - in under five years. He was dean of a statewide ordination & licensure school with 100% enrollment of people of color and started the small-group ministry at a large evangelical church.
